terminology a little confused. You are right that some printers like the
Okidata series you mentioned use an array of LEDs rather than a scanning
laser. But either one of these controls the temporary adhesion of the toner
particles to a drum that rotates and transfers the toner to the paper
stock.
The paper then runs through a heating element that fuses, i.e. heats the
toner
until it melts and bonds with the paper. There may be differences in the
fusing
quality in various printers, but it doesn't depend on the laser vs. LED
aspect.
At least that is my understanding of the process used in laser printers and
similar to what happens in xerographic copiers.
