Yes, girls can go camping. Yes, Explorers are covered under BSA insuranc=
e.
Yes, you are right, she should be held to the same policies (buddy system=
)
as the boys.
*When* she goes camping with the Troop, a female chaperone (Scouter) is
required, so unless her mom, or another
female adult is willing to go, she may not. It isn't enough that her
father is along, you must have a woman
with the Troop, too. <<
I don't think that it's as simple as Mark makes it sound. Yes, girls can=
be "invited guests" as part of a troop venture activity, and yes, explori=
ng
events are covered by BSA insurance. But this wasn't a venture activity =
or
an explorer event, but a regular troop outing.
Mark does point out how this could be handled *IF THE TROOP COMMITTEE WAN=
TS
TO ALLOW IT*. This seems to be the place to start. If the parents objec=
t,
it should stop right there. Mom and Dad can't FORCE the troop to allow t=
he
daughter to come along. Next, the outing can only be a venture outing -
that is, limited to scouts 13 years of age or older. Finally, there must=
be proper leadership. I'm not sure on this point, but I think that there=
must be TWO female leaders, and not just one whenever females are include=
d.
