A.Word.A.Day--boondoggle

Mark Arend (arend@CENTURYINTER.NET)
Mon, 25 Aug 1997 13:51:50 -0500

Just got back from vacation and while going through my email I found this
"word a day" that you thought some of you might be interested in. I am
familiar with the #2 definition but I hadn't seen the #1.

Appologies if someone else posted this while I was out of town and set to
nomail.

>boon.dog.gle n. [coined by Robert H. Link, American scoutmaster]
>1. a braided cord worn by Boy Scouts as a neckerchief slide, hatband, or
> ornament
>2. a wasteful or impractical project or activity often involving graft

> "The Alameda Corridor is potentially the greatest boon to the broad
> region that stretches from the Pacific through the Inland Empire--and
> it is the biggest potential boondoggle."
