Thanks all for your responses to my unit patch query. I was able to
identify a few more suppliers, and hopefully some of them will stock
segments so we can get them for around 45 cents each. For your info, the
absolute high price on a good quality patch is around $2.00 each, with an
order of about 200. Most suppliers will match bids, so the key concerns
are delivery time, quality, reliability and design assistance.
Thanks Michael Bowman for suggesting that I get scout executive approval
for the making the patch official. This process allows us to use the
fleur-de-lis or cub scout diamond on the patch legally. I found out
that our scout executive review is most concerned with ensuring that the
content of the patch is consistent with BSA values.
There is a potential concern with the size of the patch and the chore of
sewing on the segments. But most parents and boys are enthusiastic about
the concept of the unit patch. It should serve to build unit pride, as
well as provide a cost-effective recognition of participation in pack
activities.
