Ages of Eagles

Here are some "Eagle Scout Statistics" for our troop since it was
started in 1986:

The AVERAGE age is 15 years, 6 months
The AVERAGE "Trail to Eagle" tenure is 4 years, 2 months
Our YOUNGEST Eagle was age 12 years, 6 months
Our OLDEST Eagle was age 18 years, 2 months
The SHORTEST "Trail to Eagle" was 2 years, 1 month
The LONGEST "Trail to Eagle" was 7 years, 2 months

Generally speaking, we DO NOT have a problem with the "young Eagles"
dropping out shortly after making Eagle. Two of the 12 year olds
remained in Scouting until age 18 and the other one is still active. We
have a strong high adventure program which helps to keep the boys active
after they make Eagle. We also emphasize Eagle Palms and encourage the
boys to use their Scouting activities to earn the Congressional Award.
Over one 3-year period, 1/2 of the Bronze Congressional Awards presented
to Texas boys went to members of our troop. One boy earned his third
Silver Palm the day before he turned 18. We build our program around
camping, community service, high adventure and FUN. A high rate of
advancment seems to follow.

During our first ten years of operation (1986-96), 117 boys completed
their Scouting careers. Here are statistics on the highest rank
attained by these boys:

So, about 65% of our boys who made First Class wound up as Eagle Scouts.
During the past five years, we've refined our "New Scout" Program to
place emphasis on achieving the First Class Rank during the first 12
months with the troop. Not all boys do this but those that do certainly
have a high probability of winding up as Eagles.
