Hi folks,
I'm Allen Maddox. I'm the Scoutmaster for Troop 9 in Honey Brook, PA.
I've had this position for about a year and a half now. I took the
position after it was left vacant with no other candidate. At the time we
had only 6 scouts. We are now up to 24 with a large WEBELOS den crossing
over next year.
I've had the "Fast Start" and the Scoutmasters Fundamentals (which I have
to admit it was some of the most fun I've had in a long time), and am
looking forward to Train the Trainer and Wood Badge. Other than my own
personal Scouting experience with Troop 249 in Philadelphia, PA, and the
back up of a few good parents, we are trying to rebuild our troop.
All comments and suggestions are welcome. And you will be hearing from me
in the future as I cry out for help and advice from you all.
Right off the bat. The biggest obstacle I have is parent participation (
the lack of), i.e. no commitment for Ass. Scoutmasters (the real
backbone). Any suggestions? And the lack of formal training by some
committee members. How do I convince them it's not just for me?
Anybody with any history, memories, or you know somebody who knows
somebody of Troop 249 Philadelphia, PA. Please feel free to contact me.
YiS
