Hello Jon and all the list!
A little less than two years ago, my wife and I bought a home computer.
Shortly after that, we got connected to the internet, through a local ISP.
At first I struggled with the whole thing, about the only thing I could
figure out was how to navigate the web, so I spent most of my on-line time
there. I discovered the newsgroups, and from there learned about Scouts-L. I
haven't checked in on the newsgroups for months now. Scouts-L, on the other
hand, has been a wonderful source of information, ideas and inspiration for
me this past year-and-a-half. As I think back, it is difficult for me to
pick out just a few subjects that have made me a better Scouter.
- I've learned about conducting religious services at Scout outings.
- I've learned about Deep-Fried Turkeys.
- I've learned many humorous stories that I've been able to share with Scouts
and Scouters I work with.
- I've learned Skits and songs to make our Troop campfire programs more
lively.
- I've learned "Scoutmaster's Minutes" that I've been able to use to help
motivate both the Scouts and Scouters in our Troop.
- I've received encouragement to keep on going, even when things are bad.
- I've received more great advice than I could have in years of Roundtables.
- and much, much more!
But the thing that sticks out most in my mind, since I just got done
sharing it with 182 Cubs at our District Day Camp, is the recipe for Spoon
Fudge (new list members since it was posted, e-mail me off-list and I will
be happy to send you a copy of the recipe). Thanks to this recipe and others
that I found directly or indirectly through this list, my "Scout Skills"
program was rated by the participants' evaluations as the favorite program
area at Day Camp this year, over BB-Guns, Archery and even "Adventure-Land".
Thank You Jon, for providing this wonderful forum for all of us to share
in the spirit of Brotherhood and World-Wide Scouting.
