Jim,
Your Scoutmaster or Advancement Chairman should be able to pass along an
adult scout application and a Merit badge counselor form. If they don't
have one, ask at your next District Roundtable. They should also be able to
supply you with a pamphlet describing the counselor's responsiblities.
She needs to fill it in (no other signatures are required, just hers)and use
"42" for the position code. The MB Counselor form asks about which badges
they want to council, whether their expertise/interest in the subject comes
professionally or from a hobby, and whether they want to council scouts from
"their" troop, or any Scout in the area. When you present the forms to be
completed, I suggest you give her a copy of the Theatre Merit Badge Book.
Its a nice gesture and keeps her from having to spend the $2. to do a good turn.
The completed forms are then mailed to your council service center for
processing, which means they are added to the database and filed. As soon
as the forms are completed and mailed she can start counseling.
The Theatre instructor is a perfect example of how members of the community
can help scouts by doing what they do best. My son was just inducted into
his high school's thespian society, with all its fanfare. This came after
appearing in the school's production of Brigadoon. With all the late nights
and weekends these kids put in, they should at least get a MB out of it.
