I have always believed that we should be honest and forthright with our
children. I do not see how "hiding" our "betting" (lottery ticket
purchases etc.) is in line with this. This seems to be a case of "Do
What I Say Not What I Do." or of "Saying one thing and doing another in
secret."

My wife and I infrequently purchase lottery tickets - we make no attempt
to hide this from our children - however, we have talked openly with
them about it - how it is entertainment NOT an income attempt, adout
discretionary income versus "Needs" spending, etc. In the same light,
we have taken our children to local activities involving betting - what
about local BINGO activities. We use every opportunity we can to
educate our children about the reality of the world, what are some of
the good and bad things that exist therein, what we believe are some of
the good versus bad choices one can make, etc.

However, we would not do this if we were responsible for a group of
children and this activity had not been approved by their parents - they
have the right to determine to what and how their children are exposed.
