Cease Fire!

An interesting event happened on the archery range at day camp yesterday.
In the very first group, an injury occurred. The other adult range master
called Cease Fire and I repeated it, not knowing at the time what had really
happened. I have found out that my Loud Voice has come in extremely handy
in some scout situations.
I left the range to get the first aid kit from my car, just a few feet
from the range, with cell phone and everything else it is suggested to
have when running a range.
When I walked back into the range, an arrow flew.
Yep, I was mad. I informed the boy, "Cease fire was called, exit the range
now!" and went to look at the boy who was hurt.
We started the range again. I went over to the boy who I had removed from
the range and asked what had happened. (When 8 boys are standing still and
the ninth boy takes a shot, I have to wonder what went wrong).
The boy told me that he "had forgot". Not a great, answer, but one I can
understand. I patted him on the shoulder, told him he could re-enter the
range for the next round, but I could not tolerate any horse-play on the
range.
I later found out from one of the Boy Scouts who was assigned to me, that
the boy took the shot "on a dare" from his buddy. I believe this Boy
Scout. He has worked ranges with me in the past and does an excellent job.
So, to the group, what would you do, if anything. And, did I overreact to
the situation by kicking the boy out? Just interested in what others would
do...I would still kick the boy out of the range, but curious to responses.
