Re: "Timely" recognition versus "timely" ceremonies

Dennis Haynes (HAYNESNPA@AOL.COM)

Our Pack has always had the opinion thatall awards and advancements were to
be done at the very next Pack meeting, no matter what. We are, admittedly,
small, having only 3 Dens, including 1 Tiger Den, so this is an easy task. I
can keep close tabs on when a boy is getting close to an award, and make sure
he gets it. The Pack meeting is also held 10 days after the last monthly Den
meeting, which also gives me time.

However.......I have, just in case of an "emergency" need, a sheet outlining
various situations that allows me to instanly put together a ceremony in less
than 1 minute. There can be props (like a candle we use at every meeting).
It is a checklist that asks who(with suggestions), what ceremony, and a
brief closing. It is not as elaborate as when I have a week or 2 to put
together a ceremony, but it does show the qualifying boys some effort has
gone into their presentations. It can never get out of date. I've only had
to use it once, to welcome a new Cub who I did not know had just joined the
Pack.

If you will e-mail me a snail mail address, I will send it to you, as I do
not (yet) have it on my computer. I got it from Roundtable.

Lastly, I read a response to you from someone who keeps Arrows, AOLs, and
badges in stock for these last minute awards. Our District will not allow me
(the only one in the Pack authorized to do so) buy any of these without my
sign off as to who earned what award and when! I cannot put together a
stockpile of unaccounted-for awards like that. How can this be done???
