Blaine,
Whatever you decide to do, please make sure it meets the letter and the
spirit of the advancement requirement. Your e-mail suggested giving
more time credit for the Scouts work than the actual time spent in the
position. If it says four months or six months, then it should be that,
not some time based on a special formula you create to turn the time
into something more. I'm a believer that BSA established a good, viable
program for boys and asks adult leaders to implement it. There are
plenty of opportunities that allow flexibility and adaptation in the
program to suit a particular unit but other parts were designed to be
done as written/established and should be done that way. I believe
there's nothing wrong with the experience for the experience's sake.
There doesn't have to be some tangible reward for everything the boys
do.
