My father-in-law made several easels for church and grandkids. He used
chalkboard paint to paint some squares/rectangles (particle board??) green
(use something that can withstand water). He made A-frames from lumber
(1x2 or 1x3) with a piano type hinge on the top and folding hinges (like a
ladder) on the 2 sides. Then the green boards were attached to the frames
with screws and wingnuts thru pre-drilled holes. He also made boxes that
fit along the bottom of the chalk board to hold paint pots or chalk and
erasers. He used very long screws to attach them thru the chalkboard and
frame. He also had a chalkboard on each side so 2 (or more) kids could
use the easel at the same time.
My mother-in-laws suggestion was to have the chalkboard "hang over" the
frame so you could use large clips to hold the paper on the top or sides
of the chalk board.
