21 year old cub leader

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi all,

Well here's my pennys worth.

I have been an asst. CSL since January 1992, before that I was an instructor
in a sea scout troop, and before that a scout etc.

When I joined the cub pack I was only 17 yo, I'm now 22 yo. During this time
I have never had any problems with the cubs/parents questioning my interest in
cub scouting.

When I joined the pack I knew 2 of the 5 leaders for the previous 3 months, and
none of the rest, yet this did not hinder my involvement in the pack/troop or
the district. Ok, the CSL did know my SL for the previous 20 odd years.

The only reason I joined was because I was losing interest in scouts and was
considering taking a break. The chance to move to a different group, I saw as a
chance to renew my interest.

In the process of my joining and applying for a warrent (Piece of paper saying
I am a leader etc.) I had to advise my history in scouting and provide a
reference. The application then was accepted by the group leader and district,
all just a formalty.

The whole topic of a cub leader not having their own children in the pack, and
therefore having other questionable reasons for being in the pack are stupid.

Good leaders are hard to come by, the team of leaders in my pack has taken
over 5 years to build up, through lots of hard work on behalf of the CSL.

We shouldn't refuse a young adult just because they have no children, I know
I have no intentions of having children for at least 8-10 years. Should I
therefore be a ACSL???

The majority of people are good, and only wish to try make good people out of
the children under their care, and show the children how to live life to the
most.

By the way, I am from Ireland.
