Re: summer camp uniforms

Marie E. Lackore (mlackore@VBE.COM)
Wed, 21 May 1997 11:12:46 -0500

Snip: One of the adults does not have a uniform and refuses to wear one =
even if the troop provides the funds necessary to buy him one. The troop =
commitee chair and the rest of the adults who are attending summer camp =
feel that the one non-uniformed adult is setting a bad example for the =
boys in the troop.=20

Is this adult a registered and/or trained leader? It would be a worse =
mistake to put an untrained leader in a uniform at summer camp than to =
not. Let us not all forget that the uniform respresents all that is =
good in Scouting. When I put on my uniform, I try my best to take off =
my bad habits and to uphold the moral values that Scouting represents. =
I am a registered leader. I am a trained leader. I am Wood Badge =
Trained. I understand the importance and responsibility of wearing the =
uniform. If this adult is not a registered and/or trained leader, then =
chances are he does not. I do not think that adults who are not =
registered should wear the uniform. I do not have a problem with them =
being at summer camp if they understand the rules of camp, but they =
should not wear a uniform. It is only setting them up for failure.

My $.02 worth!
