You do not have to have a son in Scouts to be a part of it. However,
if you do not know anyone in the unit, they might be a bit suspicious.
You should consider becoming a unit commissioner. You would work with
from one to three packs or troops. The commissioner's job is to help the
unit succeed. Your council will provide basic commissioner training and
I don't know of any commissioner staffs that wouldn't welcome another
commissioner!
