I'm sure what you say applies to a number of people but, speaking for
myself, I don't think it applies to those of us who are not lacking in pride
and self-esteem. Although I have disappointed myself, no one has ever
humiliated me - and I fell for all the tricks back in 1939. Either play
right along with the perpetrator or turn the tables on him; the first knocks
the wind out of his sails and the second is a knockout.
Just say "yes, sir, that was very dumb of me but it's not as dumb as when
you (invent something)", and they'll laugh him off the floor or, beat the
snipe hunters back to the campsite - I did.
It's seldom the size of the dog in the fight that matters - it's the size of
the fight in the dog.
