New Auto Law re: Under 12s

Does anyone know if a law was passed stating that children under the age
of 12 may not ride in the front passenger seat of cars.
My understanding is that it is only a recommendation by the auto
manufacturere's and then only specific to passenger side airbag equipped
vehicles.
Private e-mail, unless you think the list would beneft from this.
BTW, I am not antigun nor am I fanatically progun (own one legally with
hunting & target only permit) and I think that Jere made a mistake
regardless of circumstances and he should accept the consequences is
sportsmanlike and scout fashion! No cover ups, just honesty...don't make
two mistakes! My 2cents.
