One of the basic principles of the advancement program is to recognize the
boys for their achievements as soon as possible. One should not wait until
the next pack meeting, blue and gold banquet, crossing-over ceremony, or
court of honor to give the boy the badge he has earned; give him the badge
ASAP with whatever degree of ceremony is appropriate for the moment, and
just hang on to the certificate card so you have something to present at the
next formal recognition ceremony. Specifically, presentation of the AOL is
not a function of crossing over and should not be held up just to make it
part of that ceremony. Give them the badges in a low-key ceremony at the
next den meeting, recognize them formally with the certificate card at the
next pack meeting, and recognize them as AOL recipients again when they
finally cross over. They've done something good, so reward them ASAP, then
keep bragging on them!
