Here is what I remembered, but I see the difficulty with what we in the
colonies do to the "King's English." :)

I believe the rhyme you're looking for is this:
Man, Nation, Maiden
Please, call it Baden.
Further, for Powell
Rhyme it with Noel.
Unfortunately, we have about three pronunciations for "Noel":
- No-ell', as in the Christmas season
- Now - ell (or is it "No - well'?), as I often see it in the
Christmas Carol "The First Nowell", and
- No'-ul, as in the playwright Noel Coward.
THEN, we have another quote from B-P, who said his schoolmates used to
call him "Bathing Towel".
It seems that we colonists just can't master the Queen's English (or
any other language for that matter -- our pronunciation of
Charles DeGaulle comes to mind ...). Frankly, I'm happy that my Scouts
remember who he is - I'm not fussy about pronunciation.
(The whole thing started for me when one of my committee members, who
is married to a woman of British birth, said his wife had met Lady
Baden-Powell, and she pronounced the last part "Pool". I think I
should have left well enough alone!)
