ADMINISTATIVE: Posting Guildlines

Jon Eidson (eidson@UNIX4.IS.TCU.EDU)

Hi again ...

It is time for some SCOUTS-L posting guideline reminders. There
have been some rather blatant transgressions lately that must
be addressed:

-- The BEST guidelines in ALL postings is to abide by the Scouts Oath
and Promise. It is valid to discusss ideas and to disagree
but NEVER on a personal level.

-- Any form of commercial advertising is NOT allowed. Mentioning of
products and services in answering questions, during discussions,
etc. is ok.

-- Too much quoting! I cannot stress this enough. If you are
NOT willing to heavily edit a quoted message then DO NOT
QUOTE.

-- Do NOT send mime based postings to the list. This happens when
your email software allows you to "attach" a file. There are
just too many problems associated with these types of files
in a listserv forum.

Other areas of reminders include:

-- Signature lines too long. Come on now ... It seems a few postsers
are wanting us to see how fancy they can make their signature
lines. At most all you need is 4-5 lines ... lets keep things
senseable here.

-- Personal email messages including congratulations (should be
sent privately) and "so and so's email bounced and I'm
sending it to everyone", etc.

-- Try and keep topics limited to scouting and youth groups. Info
about internet, latest virsus, etc. do not belong here.

If you have misplaced your copy of the WELCOME file, you can get
a new one by sending email to "LISTSERV@tcu.edu" with a one line
message (no signature lines) that says "GET SCOUTS-L WELCOME".

Thanks for listening. YiS, Jon Eidson, Listowner Scouts-L
