1997 National Endowment Tour

Just wondering about this event and would like to hear your comments...

This year is the first I had noticed an article in Scouting about
the 1997 National Endowment Tour to visit 20 cities across the nation.
The traveling exhibit of Csatari Scouting art was scheduled to be in a
city fairly close so I thought I would take my sons to visit. (Our
family had thoroughly had enjoyed the artwork on display at the National
Scouting Museum in Murray, Kentucky when we visited last September.)

I called the council in the city and spoke to a very nice
professional Scouter who told me the following:
- viewing of the exhibit was by invitation only and would be to
a small group of guests
- the only Scouts to be present would be those who were serving
as honor guards, etc., and that those Scouts' parents would be
allowed a brief moment before the reception to view the
artwork
- there would be no public display of the exhibit

I am aware of the preparation necessary for displaying valuable
works of art and the environmental conditions they require. I wish the
article in "Scouting" (January-February issue, page 7) had been more
explicit.
This exhibit could have been opened to the general Scouting
membership at a time different from that time designated to the big
benefactors.
Does this type of exhibit appeal to scouters on Scouts-L?
Is this how other councils will handle the exhibit, too?
The next stops for the exhibit will be: Jacksonville - Jan. 30;
Memphis - Feb. 13; and San Antonio - Feb. 27.
