Re: 50th Year Celebration Ideas

Dear Robin,

When my troop celebrated it's 50th, we had a special
lunch and invited all the present scouts, scouters, and family as well as as
many past scouts and scouters we could locate. The lunch was held after a
special mass was celebrated in our honor in the church that sponsers us. At
the mass some of the present scouts presented a troop neckercheif and hat to
the paster during the offering of gifts.
I under took the task of decorating the hall for the
lunch. I set up as much of the troop equipment and awards as possible. I used
old patrol flags as centerpeices for each table, marked off the ponts of the
compas with signs the scouts use for training (N, S, E, W, etc) on the walls.
In one corner a model campsite was set up complete with tent, (sleeping bag
and pack inside), ax yard and fire, ready to be lit. For many of the family
members it was the first time they saw what a typical site looks like.
A fair amount of phot albums, awards, plaques, etc were
also set out on a disply table. Scouts manned the table to explain how the
awards were earned and by whom. A big hit of the day were present and past
advancement charts.
All in all it was a great day, and the scouts had a
terrific time and so did the invited guests.
I also want to take this time to wish you and all the
scouts in your troop a happy 50th anniversary and I can't wait to wish you a
happy 100th.

RTD!
