I was reminded of a tradition our Pack started several years ago. Every
year our Webelos build Pinewood Derby Car Stands for all the cars in the
Pinewood Derby. The Webelos get a credit for the Craftsman Activity Badge
and the other Scouts have a cool car stand to take home.
The stands are made from two pieces of pine attached together with screws
or glue.
One piece is a 5.5 inch high and 4.0 inch wide back plate that sits on end.
The other is a 3.0 X 3.0 inch base sitting flat, centered and attached to
the back plate.
>From the side the stand has the capital "L" shape. The car sits on the 3.0
X 3.0 base. There may be pictures in a Scouting book somewhere but I got
the design from a Pow Wow book.
Took my Webelos about 2.0 hours to cut, drill, build and paint 30 of these
things.
Cost us about 40 cents per car. A cheap easy way to make sure everyone
takes something home from the races.
