Derby Cars

We all know derby cars are usually the proud production of Dad or
Grampa, but sometimes there isn't one available. As an Urban Scouter
I find that a real challenge. My plan for this year.....Invite as
many district scouters and dads to a Derby Day....During that time
these wonderful helpers will help each boy design and cut out his car,
assemble wheels etc. The rest will be done at the boys meetings.
Painting, decorating with stickers etc. Goal...get some district
scouters to "bond" with these little guys, get the cars cut, and by
saving the painting etc. the boys will feel like they really did the
car, after all when it's just a block of wood with wheels it's just
that. It's those 6 coats of paint and all those stickers that make it
a race car!
I have had offers from other units to have our boys join their race
day and use their tracks. Thanks to whoever it was that sent the
derby song out, it's neat, I plan to use it!
