Along the same lines, perhaps the good offices and influence of Steven
Spielberg could be invoked to persuade Buena Vista/Disney to reconsider
their position. Mr. Spielberg is of course an Eagle Scout and a
Distinguished Eagle Scout who attributes much of his success to Scouting.
If someone has insight on getting this information to him, it might be
worth a try.
Many useable copies of the work obviously exist either in film or more
probably various grades of video. Hopefully someone has a broadcast
quality version stored somewhere that could be used to master casettes if
it were possible to persuade BV to release it. A number of film
preservation societies and groups try to maintain classics such as this
and might also have insight on how to negotiate this with BV and/or where
to access useable copies.
It might also be useful to encourage a member of the BSA National
Executive Staff and/or National President to officially request that the
work be made available to Scouts and Scouters as a "national treasure" for
Scouting.
If enough people become "squeaky wheels" about it, sometimes things turn
around, but it takes a large effort.
Best wishes...
