The thread on holidays and cultural sensitivity reminds me of a couple of
years ago during popcorn sales. In college towns you always have a cultural
mix. One of our scouts approached a house, in uniform, and asked if they
would like to buy popcorn. The particular Scout was one of our better
salesmen and I'm sure gave quite a pitch to the occupant, newly arrived from
China. Fortunately it was one of our more sensitive Scouts, and picked up
quickly that for some people, having someone in a strange military style
uniform show up at your door is not a welcome event, it is to be feared. He
convinced them that they were not at risk for not purchasing and they
thanked him and slammed the door.
