My pack is sponsored by a Roman Catholic church, but we have a few non-RC
kids. A few weeks ago a Hindu Cub and his mother told us about Diwali,
the Festival of Light. All the Cubs made clay lanterns to take home. This
will be part of their World Faiths badge. Bippin gained his My Faith
badgeby telling the rest of the Pack about part of his religious
tradition, and for showing the Cubs around his temple.
A sensitive Leader should recognise these issues and find ways to involve
all the young people in the unit. That could certainly involve having
other meetings with themes around other religious or cultural festivals
that will be new to the majority. Let us take pride in diversity, and
recognise our members' individual differences of religion, culture
or nationality and at the same time emphasise our common bond of Scouting.
