There is a magazine, very popular with high school girls, called
Seventeen. My 14 year-old daughter (High School Freshman) subscribes,
and I look through it every so often.
The current issue, January 1997, has an featured article that is a
"fashion horoscope". Each page has a picture of a young woman. The
legend has the usual astrology tripe (little editorial there...)
coupled with some interesting facts about the young woman shown,
and a description of her wardrobe. Page 87, Libra, features "Silq,
a young rapper on the rise", wearing what is described as "Shirt, JC
Penney, $24). What she is wearing is a National issue B.S.A. youth
Boy Scout shirt (the Boy Scouts of America strip over the right breast
pocket is plainly readable).
I'll be calling National on this. Gee, maybe they could talk
Seventeen into doing a feature on an Explorer Post or two....
