As a scout with a parent as a merit badge instructor, I like having my after
teach, but I don't like him to sign me off on requirements. Signing his own
son off for a requirement puts both of us in a bad position; he can be
accused of giving me "the easy course" and I can be accused of just getting
the merit badge because my dad was the counselor. Because of this, I have
the scoutmaster or another counselor witness that I know the material and
have that second, non-partial counselor sign me off for the badge.
