In our troop, the troop pays for:
Adult yearly registration,
Leaders fees for summer camp,
Leader training (youth and adult),
Camping fees for weekend and high-adventure trips (for everyone), and
Some travel expenses on long high-adventure trips (unless it is divided
among everyone).
In general, the troop does not pay for:
Food expenses for weekend or high-adventure trips, and
Fees for high-adventure trips (although, partial assistance is sometimes
available for youth and leaders).
Money to support troop-paid activities (which the above are only a part)
mainly comes from two fund raising events. We get 10% of the profits from
our twice-yearly garage sale and 20% to 50% of the profits from running a
state fair parking lot. Smaller amounts come from saving account interest
and other fund raising events.
Leaders are encouraged to take advantage of the tax laws and deduct their
out-of-pocket expenses for travel, food, fees, and other expenses they incur
in their role as a Scout leader.
