A high priced patch

Our council did a nice little fund raiser this year and I would like to
share it with the list.
1996 was the 50th anneversery of our local camp (Camp Don
Harrington) and so a special patch was designed. Each event would
use the exact same design with a few changes. The border color, the
event name around the edge, and a few little extras were added.
Winter camp had snow added to the hills and the Spook-o-ree event was
orange with a pumpkin in it. The OA had a service patch in red with an
arrow. The Cub and Webelo camps were also there with their symbols
added to their camp patches.
In all, there were 14 patches one could earn for the year. We even
had a patch if you completed COPE training. It was tough, but I was
one of the few that went to every single event and EARNED each patch.
I hi-lighted earned because the council had a way to earn money by
selling a collection of the patches to us Scouters. The catch was that
the collection cost $150. Seem a little high. The collection was limited to
only 100, was framed and covered in glass, and included an extra 8 inch
jacket patch which only came with the purchased set. The patches in
the set were also all rimmed in gold thread. A nice added touch.
We sold out in one week. It was a special event to have the framed
sets presented at the council banquet. The best part was that the
money raised went into a special account for camping scolarships and
not the general op. fund. This is something I hope to pass on to my
nephew when I'm gone. YiS
