Sounds like he blew it. A couple of questions:
Does he ususally make decisions like this without asking the people
involved? How is his leadership otherwise?
You said you don't object to what he did, just how he did it. This could be
a good learning experience for him; we all make mistakes and maybe he didn't
realize the spot he was putting you in.
