beltloops and budgets revisited

I have an extremely active den and we have worked on and completed most
of the sports beltloops and quite a few of the academic ones. Over the
summer, (in the past), the boys have earned BB, Archery (from camp or
certified activities), physical fitness at our summertime pack activity,
swimming from another summer pack activity. When you count the boys that
play soccer, or basketball, they could rack up quite a few by the
first or second pack meeting.

I think that we have a good group to manage (5), and I think that I'm
pretty organized, but if the boys have earned practically all the beltloops
by Bear rank, I don't see how it could be done.

Also, some of the beltloops need to be re-earned, *not* re-awarded as
Webelos. I was informed at Cubmaster training at Philmont, that the boys
could not wear duplicate beltloops. The boys could re-earn them to meet
a requirement, but not have the re-awarded. That will save your pack some
money.

The Artist, Scientist, Communicator, Citizenship beltloops work well in
the Webelos program. With just a little (and I mean little), fine-tuning,
when the boy earns his Webelos pin, you can also award him the beltloops.
Check out the books and see how easy it is to marry into your Webelos
program. I encourage the younger dens not to do these til they get to
Webelos, but if they want they can.

For our budget, we only have the popcorn fundraiser. Along with this
we have Pack dues of $3.00 per month per boy to help defray costs. The
den leader can also charge den dues to offset their costs if they want.
We really never planned a budget around beltloops because they were not that
popular until my boys became wolfs and I thought it was a great program for
summer events to get the kids outside and get some recognition at the same
time. Now there real popular in the pack, to the point we plan our pack
summertime events around the boys earning some beltloops.
