I disagree with the action by National to require unit growth to qualify for
QU. I have seen a lot of posting from people in smaller units who agree with
this requirement, but national policies should be fair to ALL units.
I am currently CC for a cub pack. We have always received QU status and
Summertime Pack Awards. We offer what I feel is a quality program. We currently
have approx. 120 boys in our pack. Last year we had over 200 BOYS in our pack
and 60 adult leaders registered. We split off a new pack from ours this year to
reduce our numbers. We REDUCED our numbers in order to offer a BETTER program.
My oldest son (a WEBELOS II) is crossing over into a troop of 60 boys. Imagine
the difficulty in managing units of this size. I am sure there are other large
units out there that also offer very good programs. A policy that denies
recognition to these units is not a good policy.
I realize, and even agree, that national should encourage growth in BSA
numbers. This is the wrong way to go about it. Just my opinion.....
