BSA 's copyright problem

After being in GS for 30 years I happened to get to take Scoutmaster Fundamentals
offered by BSA. I was bowled over with the patrol method of government and the
effective teaching method taught in this course. In GS, patrols are use as
divisions of labor at activities and events not usually as a method of government.
This year I am orgainizing my daughters troop 6th - 9th graders using the training
I got from SMF. My assistant leaders have also all taken this course and last
weekend 15 men from our BSA training staff put on our Jr. leader training for the
girls. We started with 8 girls and in this first month and a half have grown to
21, so I feel justified and believing that this is something the girls are looking
for. However, I have a problem. The girls have designed a shirt type uniform and
want to put their patrol position on them, but GS do not have patches for this
like the BSA does. They want to use the BSA patches but I believe this would be an
infringment of the copyright laws. If all of our girls were 14 we could register
as Explorers, but they are not. Does anyone have a source where we could get
position patches or know if BSA would allow us to use theirs. The cost of custome
patches for small numbers is prohibitive and with us just getting started a job we
really don't have time to do right now.
