BSA 's copyright why do I pay so much!

Fellow Scouters,
Last week (I'm getting caught up on my digests) a thread about how BSA
still owns all materials copyrighted to BSA. A very important
question to me is :
If they own it why do I have to pay for it? I'll gladly give it to
them when I'm done!
Also, If I paid for my BSA stuff (uniform and patches) and BSA has the
legality to take it, don't I have the legality to get compensated for
my losses. I had to pay BSA to get this stuff and now thery're saying
its theirs to take.
It MAYBE legal, but is it fair? More to the point does it represent
the LAW and OATH?
I know some will say that it's legal and that it - no more said, but
if Scouting adheres to a lesser morality than the OATH and LAW imply -
what is our message to the scouts?
