Rowdy den, pack and leader meetings

John et. al, For Den Meetings I have house rules and then rules the boys
created. For instance, we had microwave popcorn for den snack. The boys
began to eat like pigs, stuffing the stuff in their face to be silly and
getting it all over the house. I simply asked how many boys knew how to
use the vacuum sweeper, replying "Good, because if you don't stop you'll
be using it soon!"

We did Dead Man's Brains for Halloween, you know, where you pass around
the spaghetti for everyone to feel. My guys decided to eat the body
parts, all the way to the kitchen where they were to take the dirty
dishes. I had spaghetti stuck everywhere. The PARENTS made them pick up
every strand!

Loud, I'm used to. But if I find it too much, I say so or switch to an
engrossing activity. I can truly handle loud better outside.

The den doodle works. We are "earning" toothbrushes and toothpaste for a
service project. It's AMAZING how much that immediate recognition works
for the guys.

We're working on the chaos at the Pack meetings. I suspect keeping the
early birds busy with a gathering activity, and setting up and the
stragglers busy sweeping while they wait for parents is the best solution.
And parents need to be parents. We are real strict with our boys and
don;t allow all that horsing around that gets out of hand.
