Re: Pack Problems...

Alicia:

I am sure that you have already received quite a few messages on this problem, but your
last post prompted me to respond.

How do the parents of the particular Webelos Scout feel about his being told to
straighten certain "body parts". I know that I would not tolerate anyone speaking to my
sons that way, except me (just kidding :-)).

If you decide to move to another pack, I would discuss it with the parents of your den,
and maybe move the den as a group. I wouldn't do this for any "political" reasons
(although someone is probably going to accuse you of just that. People love to read
more into any situation that is actually there) but rather for the chance for your
scouts to receive the best Scouting program possible, which it sounds like they are not
getting now. Should someone ask why you moved, however, be very straight forward about
the reasons. You may find more parents who feel the same way you do, but felt too
intimidated to respond.

Should you decide to remain with your current Pack, you should immediately contact your
Unit Commissioner. Their help could prove invaluable in straightening out the
leadership in your unit, as well as possibly help in smoothing out the situation with
the church and the school.

Lastly (and I realize that I have been extremely long winded...or would that be long
fingered? ;-)) the suggestion I read earlier about getting Den Chiefs is a good one. I
myself have one that I have worked with for going on 2 years now. We have a den of 14
(yes 14!) Bear Scouts, and his help, along with my ADL and some parental involvement, is
what keeps me going, and the scouts in line. If your CM is unwilling to help in the
aquiring of a Den Chief, ask your Unit Commissioner for help. Good luck and thank you
for the service you do for those 8 young boys.
