Referencing the previous messages about the jamboree that never was, I just came
across the following:
"Jamborees...-The first American one was meant to be in 1935. It was however
cancelled at the last moment because of an outbreak of polio near the site.
With about 6 months to go to the event the Boy Scouts had taken out insurance.
They could not collect if they cancelled the event, so they actually persuaded
the President to cancel the event so their insurance could be collected."
This came from the Guide to exhibits for the Peregrine International Museum of
Scouting, which is located in Greenback Tennessee.
