Rowdy kids while the leaders meet

Alicia, We had this problem between and after chruch with our Sunday
School age kids. I got tired of being the only one supervising the kids
behavior and saying something to them all, including my own.
1. My husband and I instituted strict penalties for our own sons for
"disrespectful, rowdy" behavior at church. Grounding, extra chores.
2. I got the other parents together to get a united front so we were all
on the same page. If you ALL decide to ground, take away privileges or
have the kids do extra chores, the group together is less likely to get
into trouble together.
3. Some parents will never get with the program and you have to accept
that. you can't make them.
4. Set bounderies for the kids that are very specific. You MAY do this,
go here - you may NOT do this, go there. You may have to set up the
rules, but get the other parents buy-in.
5. If the meeting is at someones home, THEY have the right to set their
rules, bounderies and communicate it to the kids. At my house, MY Scouts
know we don't jump on Jan's couch, run in the house, roughneck and we
don't play with the my son's toys unless it's appropriate and the boys
permission has been asked.
6. Keep bringing stuff for them to do. It may not get done, but them
again, it might. A board game several can play may work.
Hope this helps. I'm not sure you can get rid of the "mean mom" Mrs.
So&So's mean" label. But I'd sure praise your own kids if yours stay out
of trouble and the rest get the devil or have to pay for broken stuff.
