More Presidential Scouting

I've been exhuming my desk from the past week's accumulation and about three
layers down I found a real letter from the LBJ Library (apparently emailed
requests are answered via snailmail). It tells me that there was no Scout
Troop in Johnson City while the President was growing up but that he was
registered with Capitol Area Council in Austin, Tex in 1939. Both of the
Johnson daughters were Girl Scouts.
And there was a mistake in my original posting--a slip of the tongue
(fingers?). Gerald Ford was the first Eagle Scout to become President but
he was, of course, not elected President; he was chosen by Pres. Nixon to
replace VP Agnew who had to resign.
