On the subject of blankets being lifted, I will add a warning I heard
shortly after a jamboree. Keeping in mind that the value of a blanket is in
the badges on it, not the blanket, there are those unscrupulous collectors
who will collect individual badges from others blankets. I heard that
apparently at the jamboree, some unfortunate people had the experience of
wearing their blankets for campfires and later finding that someone had
helped themselves to a badge or two by the simple method of cutting it from
the blanket with a razor while the blanket was being worn. Appalling to
think that anyone who has made the scout promise could be capable of such
things, but a significant reason why I understand that scouts attending
jamborees are now discouraged from taking campfire blankets.
