I don't agree with this. I have always been, am now, and will always be
my son's dad. It will be that way regardless of circumstance. Through
their (I have 2) entire lives, when they called for dad, I answered (and
still answer). I am not going to change that for Scouting or anything
else, nor would I ever suggest it to anyone else.
What we do teaches. As Scout leaders, our actions teach all the boys in
the troop as well as our own. We should never teach that there is any bond
or relationship on this earth that is stronger than family. It may very
well be that kind of committment that some boy in your troop is looking
for in a role model.
