Re: sending scouts home/single parents

Hi all,

Ted Burton's post on getting dads involved is right on the money.
A variation on this problem I've come across is moms wanting the kid to
stick around on weekends because "I never see him" for a variety of a
reasons--too much homework, the mom works and gets home late, and so on.

Inviting the moms along on the trips has occurred to me, and I am happy
to do so, but a lot of the moms in question...well, let's just say that
they're not campers (the environment is the distance from the lobby to
the cab, if you get my meaning :<) ).

Of course, when I do get a mom involved who likes to camp--hey, no
problem. And, we have some pretty good cooks in the troop. I'm sure
that if a mom (or dad, for that matter) came along, and got up in the
morning and was handed a steaming cup of camp coffee and a plate of
dbacon and pancakes, they might decide that this camping stuff actually
wasn't too bad. Of course, you've got to get them to come on the first one.

But, that's why our pay is so high, right?
