Technically, the answer is no. However, there is a limit of 12 hours of
"driving time" a day (I assume your driving). This includes quick "rest
stops and a change of drivers", but I assume does not include stops for
meals and major recreation stops, etc.
I was forced to resubmit our National Tour Permit for our trip from
Cincinnati to the BWCA last summer when my local council interpreted the 12
hours to be a 600 mile per day maximum. I was told the regional office,
where the permit must be approved would not approve anything over 600 miles.
Our route that day was slightly over 600 miles due to a large detour around
Chicago. We resubmitted the permit showing a route directly through Chicago.
I have never seen the 600 mile interpretation in writing and I've often
wondered who would have been liable if something had happened while we were
not on our preferred, low traffic route.
The tour permit must be turned into your council 1 month prior to the trip,
but more time would probably be better. Your council will forward it to the
regional office. Our permit was approved in about 2 weeks and was sent
directly to me in the mail.
