Ready Troop & Explorer Advancement

My advancement chairman is working on a reciprocal deal between our Troop
and the local Law Enforcement Explorer Post. According to Chris, when he was
a Scout in the late 70's- early 80's there was a designation called _Ready Troop
_.
He asked me to find out if it is still an available option and if so what are th
e
requirements.
He also wanted me to get the District/Council to get more involved with the Post
's
in our District. Here the Post's fall under the District, but we have no Explore
r Training
nor are there any Explorer representatives on our District Committee. I feel tha
t we
need to use the program to best advantage, but as it is right now of the 13 post
's
chartered in our District, 12 are either Law Enforcement, Fire Dept., or Veterin
arian
Post's. The last one is a Law Post chartered by our Circuit Court and headed up
by
one of the Circuit Court Judges. To my knowledge there is no advancement being
done in the Post's, and I know that none of them get involved in any District/Co
uncil
event.
On the other side of the Bay, where the other 3 districts are, they have a separ
ate
Exploring District (the 5th district). The only real Exploring event in the Coun
cil, that
I know about is an annual weekend Ski trip to Gatlinburg, TN every January, but
I don't
think any of our people attend.
I know it has been brought up many times before, but at that time I wasn't think
ing
about the Explorer program so I didn't pay any attention to the message's. Could
someone please give the details on how advancement does work in the Explorer pro
gram.
Our District Commissioner has been talking about trying to start up a District w
ide High
Adventure Post to cater to the youth that are interested in getting more outdoor
time than
what they are getting at the Troop level.
Any help with any of the above information will as always be greatfully apprecia
ted.
