Well I think I would like to put in my 2 pence worth from Sidcup in the
Garden of England (Kent).
As has been mentioned apart from Air and Sea Scouts the UKSA do not
wear hats. But when breaking or lowering the flag all those who are wearing
hats are expected to remove them. Apart from religious exceptions.
However putting on my policeman's hat I expect my Constables to
remove their helmet in the station. Also any prisoner in my charge room who
does not remove their hat is relieved of it for the duration. I also salute
the national flag, the guidons of the armed forces, commissioned officers
and funeral hearses. But then like a few other members of the group I am
old fashioned and merely consider the issue to be one of good manners.
OK folks go ahead and flame me - is that the right expression?
