Awards and Laurie

Wow Laurie !! talk about a can of worms......

This is a subject that is one of my favorites, I love doing ceremonies.
Recently I had the oportunity to see the latest Fast Start video for
Cubmasters at our roundtable. I noticed that in the video they did a
couple of things different than I do at Pack meetings. One of the things
we tried to do at last years Pack meetings was have the Den Leaders do
award presentations for their dens. This worked most of the times but
the presentations didn't usually have the flair that I was hoping for.
Oh sure I would offer my assistance when someone wanted it but we still
would have those leaders who would just stand up front, call the boy
forward and present the award .......booooriiiing. Now that wasn't just
my opinion but it was also shared by other leaders and parents and the
boys. Even those leaders knew they where putting the Pack to sleep, the
awards portion just seemed to drag on and on and on. So here's what I
proposed to the leaders ...... I would do all the awards presentations
if the Den Leaders would alternate month to month doing skits and
demonstrations, we weren't doing to many skits or demonstrations before.
If a leader wants to be involved in the awards presentation they are more
than welcome and I will include them. Granted, we've only had one
Pack meeting using this new format but if last months meeting is an
indicator of how well this is going to be accepted by the Pack then
I think we are on the right track. I plan to make the ceremonies follow
the monthly themes, last meeting we used the ol' Cub-puter to help with
the awards. Now if I could just find a Cat In The Hat costume for next
month's meeting.....
