Hi yall,
As Cub Scout Training Chairman for 15 years, I cannot sit back and let
this go by without saying something. I CANNOT BELIEVE ANYONE would hold
up a Cub Scout about getting his just awards. People, people, people!!!
Everyone learns and advances at different rates. No one should be held
up so that the rest of the den catches up. Each child should advance at
his own rate. Every time he completes 3 achievements, he is awarded (in
his den meeting) the color bead that applies towards his rank (yellow
for Wolf, red for Bear.)
In basic training, we suggest that the boys make Feb.'s Blue and Gold
banquet their target for obtaining their rank, then they have the
remainder of the year to work on arrowpoints. There shouldn't be a
specified month to receive ranks. What does this do to a boy's
enthusiasm if he's a go getter?
And I can't believe, someone said not work on advancements during the
summer. Where are you people from? Hello!!! Wake up. Don't stop a boy
from working on anything, and earning something. After all, family
wants to see their child up front of the pack meeting receiving all
that's due him.
